Morson Edge are working with a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to recruit an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of major water infrastructure projects across the UK.

This is a 12-month contract opportunity offering up to £69 per hour, with hybrid working available. The role is based in Epsom / Woodcote Grove, with approximately 3 days per week office or site based.

Working within a highly regarded Design & Advanced Technology team, you will play a key role in the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary water projects, supporting critical infrastructure programmes across the UK. This opportunity offers involvement in technically challenging projects spanning clean water, wastewater, water reuse and pipeline infrastructure.

The Opportunity

We are looking to speak with experienced Design Managers who can coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, manage technical delivery and support complex design packages throughout the project lifecycle.

You will work closely with project managers, technical specialists, clients and other disciplines to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate or manage multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering water infrastructure projects.
  • Manage the production and review of technical deliverables including design reports, drawings, calculations and scopes of work.
  • Drive technical input across project design stages, ensuring quality, consistency and compliance.
  • Work with project management teams to successfully manage time and budgets against key project milestones and programmes.
  • Collaborate with clients, operational teams, project teams and related internal teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship and support to less experienced colleagues.
  • Support technical and delivery input for bid proposals.
  • Work collaboratively with UK and overseas multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Ensure quality assurance standards are maintained across design delivery.
  • Coordinate with relevant disciplines including MEICA, structures and geotechnics.
  • Apply relevant national and project-specific design codes and standards across water infrastructure projects.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Preferably Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer.
  • Proven experience coordinating or managing an engineering design delivery team within a design consultancy.
  • Strong experience within the Water sector is essential.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary environment and collaborating with contractors.
  • Proven ability to deliver across the full project lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in risk assessment, quality control, change management, commercial awareness and design management.
  • Experience coordinating with disciplines involved in water infrastructure design and delivery, including MEICA, structures and geotechnics.
  • Practical knowledge of current design codes, standards and industry best practice, including CDM Regulations, Eurocodes, regulatory requirements, water utility standards and NEC.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proactive and highly motivated approach with strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience across clean water, wastewater, water reuse or pipeline infrastructure.
  • Experience working within large multidisciplinary consultancy environments.
  • Previous experience mentoring or developing less experienced colleagues.
  • Experience providing technical and delivery support for bids and proposals.
  • UK and/or international multidisciplinary project experience.
