We are currently supporting a leading engineering and infrastructure consultancy that is experiencing significant growth within their Transport and Highways division. As part of this continued expansion, they are seeking an experienced Design Manager / Design Coordinator to support the delivery of a major design project in Scotland. Our client is happy to consider someone working remotely, with occasional office visits to Manchester when required.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport professional to join a high-profile project environment, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver complex infrastructure solutions.
The Role
As Design Manager / Design Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating design activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring successful delivery from concept through to detailed design. Strong project management skills will also be required.
You will work closely with clients, contractors, designers, and key stakeholders to ensure designs are coordinated, technically compliant, buildable, and delivered to programme.
Key responsibilities will include:
·Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams across highways and infrastructure disciplines.
·Leading design reviews, technical assurance activities, and design coordination meetings.
·Managing interfaces between engineering disciplines, contractors, and stakeholders.
·Supporting project delivery through effective programme management, risk management, and change control.
·Reviewing technical deliverables to ensure quality, compliance, and alignment with project requirements.
·Supporting the successful delivery of NEC contract projects through strong collaboration and commercial awareness.
·Providing technical leadership and guidance to design teams.
·Project management under NEC forms of contract
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
·Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with ICE or equivalent professional body.
·Minimum 10 years' experience working within transport infrastructure, highways, or civil engineering design environments.
·Strong experience in Design Management / Project management/ Design Coordination roles.
·Proven experience delivering complex multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
·Experience working with NEC contracts would be highly desirable.
·Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
·Ability to coordinate technical teams and drive design delivery.
Desirable Experience
Experience within the following areas would be advantageous:
·Highways and transport infrastructure projects.
·Large-scale infrastructure schemes.
·Client-side design management.
·Contractor interface management.
·BIM and digital engineering processes.
Project Background
This role will support a major transport infrastructure design project based in Scotland, offering the opportunity to work on a significant and technically challenging scheme.
