We are working with an innovative and growing UK business at the forefront of modular housing, offsite construction and sustainable development.
The business delivers high-quality, energy-efficient homes through an integrated approach covering design, planning, offsite manufacture, installation and handover. With an expanding project portfolio, they are looking for an experienced Design Manager to join the team and take ownership of the design process from feasibility through to delivery.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of architecture, engineering, construction and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
The Role As Design Manager, you will lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring projects are technically robust, compliant, buildable and delivered to programme and budget.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the design process from concept and planning through to construction.
- Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, manufacturers and subcontractors.
- Manage design programmes, deliverables and design interfaces.
- Review and challenge designs for buildability, cost, quality and manufacturability.
- Apply DfMA and MMC principles across projects.
- Coordinate the integration of modular buildings with foundations, services and external works.
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, planning requirements and relevant standards.
- Identify and manage design risks, changes and technical issues.
- Work closely with manufacturing and construction teams to ensure designs translate effectively into delivery.
- Support design reviews, value engineering and continuous improvement.
We are looking for a technically strong and commercially aware Design Manager who enjoys solving complex design and construction challenges.
You will ideally have:
- Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams.
- Strong knowledge of architectural and technical design processes.
- Experience through planning and technical design stages.
- Good understanding of UK Building Regulations and construction standards.
- Experience coordinating architectural, structural and M&E design.
- Strong understanding of construction detailing and buildability.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.
