Job Type: Permanent

The Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Design Manager to lead the coordination and delivery of design activities across a portfolio of major data centre developments.

This is a hybrid position, with travel to sites as required.

The successful candidate will have a strong engineering background and experience delivering complex building services or mission critical projects through all stages of design and construction.

Key Responsibilities

You will take ownership of the design management process across multiple projects, ensuring design information is coordinated, technically compliant and delivered in line with project programmes.

Working closely with architects, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders, you will oversee design development from concept through to construction, ensuring technical solutions meet operational requirements and industry best practice.

The role will involve coordinating design reviews, managing technical risks, monitoring design progress and ensuring effective communication between all project stakeholders.

You will contribute to the development of technical standards, specifications and design documentation while supporting continuous improvement across design processes and procedures.

You will also provide technical support during procurement, construction and commissioning phases, ensuring completed installations reflect the original design intent and project objectives.

As a senior member of the team, you will mentor junior engineers and contribute technical expertise to client meetings, design workshops and project presentations.

We are looking for an experienced Design Manager or Senior Design Engineer with a background in data centres, mission critical environments or complex building services projects.

You will have a strong understanding of the complete design lifecycle and experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams across large-scale construction projects.

Previous experience managing consultants, reviewing technical documentation and delivering projects through the RIBA Plan of Work is essential.

Candidates from data centres, healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, critical infrastructure or large commercial developments are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should ideally have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience within design management, building services engineering or technical project delivery.

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.

Chartered Engineer status or membership of a recognised professional body such as CIBSE, IET or IMechE would be advantageous but is not essential.

  • Opportunity to work on major mission critical construction projects.
  • Excellent career progression within a growing organisation.
