As Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design process across multiple projects, with a strong focus on both tender/pre-construction and project delivery. The successful candidate will act as the key interface between the design and operational teams, managing and coordinating the design process from concept through to delivery. You will work closely with architects, consultants, specialist subcontractors, clients and internal project teams to ensure designs are coordinated, commercially viable, buildable and delivered in line with programme.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing and coordinating design activities from concept through to construction and completion.
- Supporting the business through tender and pre-construction stages, including reviewing Employer's Requirements and technical information.
- Developing design programmes, design deliverables and information exchange schedules.
- Managing architects, consultants, specialist subcontractors and wider multidisciplinary design teams.
- Acting as the interface between designers and operational/project delivery teams.
- Leading design meetings, workshops and technical discussions.
- Identifying design risks, opportunities and potential value engineering solutions.
- Managing technical queries, design reviews, approvals and design changes.
- Supporting cost management, procurement and technical evaluation of specialist subcontractors.
- Supporting projects through the RIBA stages from concept through to delivery.
- Maintaining appropriate design documentation, BIM information and project records.
About You
- A degree in Architecture, Building, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Proven experience working in a Design Management role within construction.
- Previous experience working for a main contractor is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of the RIBA stages and design process.
- Experience managing multiple projects from concept/tender through to construction and completion.
- Good knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD and BIM.
- Understanding of BIM, CDE and information management principles.
- Good knowledge of CDM, Building Regulations and wider statutory requirements.
- Experience with design programmes, information exchange, cost management and value engineering.
- A professional qualification or membership such as RIBA, CIOB, CIBSE, ICE or similar would be advantageous, with candidates working towards chartership also welcomed.
