Rate: Competitive (Strictly Inside IR35 - PAYE / Umbrella PAYE Only)
We are recruiting for a Design Manager to join a tier-one engineering leader's Energy unit , supporting high-profile National Grid infrastructure schemes across South Wales. This is a full-time temporary role (45 hours/week) with an option to transition to permanent.
The Role
Managing the design process from bid through to delivery within an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) framework, your day-to-day will involve:
Coordination: Leading multidisciplinary design teams and external design consultancies.
Delivery: Driving engineering outputs to align with project programmes, cost plans, and technical specs.
Compliance: Reviewing design submissions for quality, CDM 2015 compliance, RIBA stages, and tracking/closing out Design NCRs.
Change Control: Managing design reviews and change processes under NEC3/NEC4 frameworks.
Stakeholder Interface: Acting as the central link between clients, statutory bodies, and internal site/commercial teams.
Essential Requirements
Energy Sector Foundation: Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary design packages within the UK Energy/Power sectors. Substation experience is highly desirable.
Contractual Literacy: Solid working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contract forms and ECI schemes.
Consultancy Management: Practical experience overseeing subcontracted design consultancies to ensure quality and programme alignment.
Location Ready: Ability to work out of Cardiff / South Wales to support regional projects.
