Are you an experienced Design Manager looking to join a reputable Main Contractor delivering landmark construction projects across London and the South East We are looking for a Design Manager to join a Main Contractor. The Design Manager will lead two remediation projects in London and it will be the Design Managers responsibility to deliver the projects to the agreed scope alongside the Commercial and Delivery teams. Our client are a main contractor with a large portfolio of work in the south east, offering longevity and a agile working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design management process for HRB remediation, façade replacement, and fire safety improvement projects from inception through to completion.
- Coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary design teams, including architects, façade consultants, fire engineers, structural engineers, MEP consultants, and specialist subcontractors.
- Ensure designs are compliant with the Building Safety Act, Approved Documents, relevant British Standards, and current fire safety legislation.
- Manage the development and submission of information required for Gateway 2 and Gateway 3 approvals where applicable.
- Oversee façade investigations, intrusive surveys, and technical assessments to inform remediation strategies.
- Review and challenge design proposals to ensure buildability, compliance, programme adherence, and value for money.
- Maintain the Golden Thread of Information, ensuring accurate and auditable design records throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage design risk registers and ensure all identified risks are mitigated and communicated to project stakeholders.
- Coordinate statutory approvals, planning conditions, Building Control requirements, and stakeholder approvals.
- Lead design team meetings and workshops, driving actions and resolving technical issues in a timely manner.
- Interface with residents, clients, freeholders, managing agents, and regulatory bodies where required.
- Manage the production, review, and approval of technical drawings, specifications, reports, and construction information.
- Ensure remediation solutions address fire safety defects, compartmentation issues, cladding replacement requirements, and wider building safety concerns.
- Support procurement activities by reviewing specialist contractor proposals and assessing technical compliance.
- Monitor consultant performance, design programmes, deliverables, and project milestones.
- Provide technical support during construction, managing design changes, RFIs, and ensuring site works align with approved designs.
- Collaborate with commercial and project delivery teams to identify opportunities for value engineering without compromising safety or compliance.
Salary: £75k-£85k + Package
Location: Site based + Agile working arrangements
