The opportunity
We’re working with a leading Tier 1 main contractor to find an experienced Design Manager for multiple multi million pound DFE projects across Yorkshire.
This is a key role where you’ll lead and coordinate the design process from development through to delivery. You’ll make sure the design is buildable, compliant and value-engineered, and that the information the delivery team needs reaches them on time.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the full design team (architects, structural, civil and MEP consultants, and specialist subcontractors) through each design stage
- Produce and maintain the design programme and the information required schedule (IRS), in line with the construction programme
- Run design team meetings, workshops and technical reviews, and chase actions to close-out
- Review designs for buildability, value, quality and compliance with the Employer’s Requirements, Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act
- Lead the Gateway and Golden Thread processes where applicable, working closely with the Principal Designer
- Manage technical queries (RFIs), design change control and the impact on cost and programme
- Coordinate subcontractor design packages and the review and approval of submittals
- Support pre-construction activity, including tender reviews, value engineering and risk management
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, local authority building control and statutory bodies
About you
- Proven track record as a Design Manager with a Tier 1 or major Tier 2 main contractor
- Experience of design-and-build projects within the DFE industry
- Strong technical knowledge of construction, building regulations and fire safety
- Sound understanding of the Building Safety Act and the Gateway process
- Working knowledge of BIM/ISO 19650, CDE platforms (e.g. Asite, Viewpoint, ACC) and design coordination software
- Confident leader and communicator, comfortable managing consultants and challenging designs
- Degree or HND in Architecture, Construction, Engineering or a related discipline (desirable)
Why apply?
- Join a prestigious Tier 1 contractor on multiple high profile schemes
- Competitive day rate with long-term workload and the potential to extend
- Work locally across West Yorkshire, with easy access from Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Halifax
