Job Title: Development Engineer (Base Engines)

Location: Peterborough (Fully Onsite)

Salary Equivalent: £49,519 per annum

Contract Length: 12 Months

Working Hours: Monday to Thursday (08:30 - 16:45) & Friday (08:30 - 16:15)

About the Role

Join a global leader in manufacturing and engineering as a Development Engineer within the Component Engineering Base Engine Team. This position comes at a time of significant investment in clean-sheet engine designs to meet an ever-changing global energy landscape.

In this role, you will act as a key technical contributor, focused on developing and validating design solutions for New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, new technologies, and updates to existing engine platforms. Working in a collaborative, supportive 9-member team, you will interface directly with global manufacturing sites, suppliers, and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validation & Testing: Lead, plan, and execute core engine system validation activities, including both rig and complete system testing.

  • Risk Management: Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) on mechanical components and systems to identify design risks and establish testing priorities.

  • Root Cause & Troubleshooting: Diagnose production, test, and field issues down to root cause using structured methodologies (e.g., 8D problem-solving). Implement swift containment actions and develop permanent corrective designs.

  • Collaboration: Conduct component and system design reviews, keeping peers, team leaders, and global manufacturing stakeholders updated on project timelines.

Essential Requirements:

  • Technical Background: An engineering degree is highly preferred (Mechanical or Automotive), though an HNC backed by equivalent hands-on experience and expertise is valued.

  • Engine Knowledge: Minimum of 3+ years of relevant product development and testing experience focused on internal combustion engines (ICE), preferably Diesel or Petrol.

  • Component Mastery: In-depth technical competence in one or more core engine areas: Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather/Cooling systems, Bolted joints, or Sealing.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and teamwork capabilities, with a self-motivated approach to managing and delivering complex tasks on time.

Desirable Skills (Not Essential):

  • Experience running or participating in FMEA and creating DVP&R documentation.

  • Familiarity with product lifecycle data management systems like Teamcenter.

  • Background in New Product Development following APQP methodologies.

  • Component design capability using Creo software.
