Location: Exeter – hybrid, 1–2 days per week in the office
Contract: 6 months
Rate: £600 per day Umbrella

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Digital Developer / Frontend Developer to join a government organisation on an initial 6-month contract.

This is a great opportunity for a frontend specialist to work on modern digital services within a collaborative, Agile environment, developing accessible and responsive user experiences and integrating with internally developed APIs and platforms.

The Role

You will work across the full software development lifecycle, from development and testing through to deployment and ongoing enhancement. You'll collaborate closely with design, product and technical teams to deliver high-quality digital solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing responsive, accessible and high-quality user interfaces using React, Next.js and TypeScript
• Working with internal APIs and search indexes to deliver effective user experiences
• Collaborating with design and product teams to create intuitive and user-friendly interfaces
• Maintaining and enhancing existing applications
• Participating in code reviews, testing and debugging
• Supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
• Producing technical documentation and contributing to project requirements
• Working within Agile development practices
• Keeping up to date with modern frontend technologies and development best practice

About You

We're looking for a proven frontend developer with strong experience across modern JavaScript frameworks and a good understanding of software development practices.

You'll ideally have:

• Strong commercial experience with React, Next.js and TypeScript
• Excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Experience integrating with APIs
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch/search indexes and SQL-based databases
• Experience using Git and modern development workflows
• Understanding of cloud environments, ideally Azure and/or AWS
• Experience with responsive and accessible web development
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working in an Agile environment

Desirable:

• Experience with PyGeoAPI
• Experience with Jira and Confluence
• Experience working with geospatial/GIS technologies
