About the Opportunity

Amentum is currently recruiting for a Digital Engineer (Inventor) to join our Energy business, which is entering an exciting phase of opportunity supporting new small and advanced modular reactor developers internationally. Our work is varied, covering nuclear projects (Licensing, New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling). We’re looking for a driven individual who embraces collaboration and diversity, and who shares our vision to create a secure and vibrant future by continuously reinventing, realising breakthroughs and taking on challenges with courage.

Our goal is to support development of new nuclear technologies and to keep existing power stations operating safely, contributing to the UK’s Net Zero carbon target.

And this is where you come in

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in engineering design, CAD, BIM, modularisation and/or digital engineering who has hands-on experience using Autodesk Inventor and wants to support modular project delivery. You will develop and coordinate accurate 3D models, assemblies, fabrication drawings, bills of materials and installation information for integrated mechanical, electrical, piping and instrumentation modules.

The ideal candidate will have practical Autodesk Inventor experience, a good understanding of engineering design and fabrication processes, and the ability to work confidently across multi-discipline modular engineering teams. Experience with modularisation, Autodesk Vault, iLogic/parametric modelling, Navisworks, Plant 3D, common data environments or digital handover would be advantageous.

People are at the heart of everything we do

Central to the success of the role will be your people skills, building effective relationships and interacting with multiple internal and external stakeholders in multiple locations. You’ll also work closely with colleagues to support activities that offer the best service to the client.

Through your interactions, you’ll be able to gather useful intelligence on client needs and work with the team to deliver innovative solutions.

You’ll utilise your strong communication and engagement skills to achieve client, people and business outcomes, working with your team and peers that are based in different locations across the UK.

We’re continuously evolving and growing the business, so there’s plenty of opportunity to evolve and grow your skills and career too.

This role will be based at one of our Energy offices (Newcastle, Warrington). We put flexibility at the heart of what we do and we’re happy to consider flexible working patterns. Key responsibilities could include:

  • Developing and updating Autodesk Inventor 3D models, parts, assemblies, sub-assemblies and modular design packages.
  • Supporting modularisation, including module breakdown, boundaries, interfaces, access, lifting/handling, transport constraints, installation sequencing and site tie-ins.
  • Modelling and coordinating integrated mechanical, electrical, piping and instrumentation modules, including skids, fabricated frames, pipe racks, equipment packages, cable containment, instrument supports and local panels/junction boxes.
  • Producing and checking general arrangement, fabrication, manufacturing, assembly, installation, interface/tie-in drawings, exploded views, bills of materials, parts lists and material schedules.
  • Interpreting design briefs, specifications, P&IDs, line lists, equipment data sheets, cable/instrument schedules, vendor information, surveys and engineering calculations.
  • Working with engineers, designers, fabricators, suppliers, construction and site teams to resolve buildability, clash, access, maintenance and interface issues.
  • Ensuring model data and drawings are accurate, controlled, revision-managed and aligned with company/client CAD, BIM, document control and quality requirements.
  • Supporting design reviews, clash and constructability reviews, factory assembly/pre-commissioning, as-built updates, digital handover and improvement of Inventor templates, libraries and workflows.
  • Skills and Qualifications (the following list outlines desirable skills and qualifications. While these attributes are valued, we understand that applicants may not possess all of them. We therefore encourage applications from individuals with relevant experience and potential):
  • Practical experience using Autodesk Inventor in an engineering design, project delivery, fabrication, manufacturing or modular construction environment.
  • Strong 3D modelling and 2D technical drawing capability, including parts, complex assemblies, details, bills of materials and parts lists.
  • Experience with modular assemblies, skid-mounted systems, packaged plant, fabricated frames, pipework, cable containment or instrument supports.
  • Good understanding of mechanical design, fabrication, materials, tolerances, machining, sheet metal, welding, installation and design for manufacture and assembly.
  • Awareness of electrical, piping and instrumentation interfaces and the ability to coordinate them within modular layouts.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, layouts, specifications, data sheets, vendor drawings, cable/instrument schedules and site information.
  • Familiarity with clash detection, design reviews, constructability, access, lifting, transport and maintainability considerations.
  • Experience with Autodesk Vault or other model/drawing management systems; AutoCAD, Navisworks, Revit, Plant 3D, Fusion 360 or similar would be advantageous.
  • Experience with iLogic, parametric modelling, design automation, standardised component libraries or modular templates would be advantageous.
  • Awareness of BIM/digital engineering standards including ISO 19650, common data environments and digital handover/asset information requirements.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • HNC, HND, degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in mechanical, manufacturing, design, digital engineering, CAD, BIM, construction or a related technical discipline.
  • Formal Autodesk Inventor training, certification, or demonstrable workplace experience.
  • Relevant discipline background in mechanical, electrical, piping, instrumentation, modular design, fabrication, manufacturing, process/plant or building services engineering.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body would be beneficial, such as IMechE, IET, IChemE, CIOB, EngTech, IEng/CEng or equivalent.
