As a Dispensary Assistant, you'll be part of that team, issuing prescriptions, checking details carefully, and helping keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
No dispensing qualification? No problem.
We'll support you to work towards a recognised dispensing qualification (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) while you learn on the job.

What you'll be doing
You'll:
- Issue stock items and prepared prescriptions to patients
- Take prescription charges and check exemption statements
- Keep accurate financial and dispensing records
- Process and bundle prescriptions for the Prescription Pricing Authority
- Make sure medicines are stored correctly, including checking and logging fridge temperatures
- Double-check dispensed items against prescriptions, flagging anything unclear to senior colleagues
- Keep the dispensary clean, tidy and well organised
Hours
30 hour post, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:00am to 6:30pm
What we're looking for
You don't need to already hold a dispensing qualification. We're particularly interested in hearing from people who are:
- Accurate and comfortable working to a high level of attention to detail
- Able to work at pace without letting accuracy slip
- Confident managing their own time and priorities
- Good communicators, able to work across different levels
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Confident using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Essential
- Ability to work accurately with a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to analyse information and compare a range of options in routine situations
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to manage own time effectively, with a clear sense of priority
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook to intermediate level
- Patient-focused and compassionate about delivering safe, effective care
- Resilient and flexible to meet service needs

Desirable
- Recognised dispensing qualification (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards one
- Experience working as a dispenser in a pharmacy or dispensing practice
- Knowledge of a GP clinical system, particularly EMIS Web
- Knowledge and experience of using the Proscript dispensing system
- Understanding of primary care medical and dispensing services
