Role Description

AZOROM has an ongoing contract with ESB and wishes to fill this present position.

Renewable Operations is a division within ESB Generation and Trading with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s renewable assets portfolio. This currently includes Onshore Wind and Distributed Generation portfolio such as large-scale batteries, solar, synchronous condensers and flexible gas plant.

As part of delivery of the Net Zero by 2040 Strategy ESB will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030. This will involve an increase to +5,000MW of renewable generation, offshore wind, onshore wind, and solar. Also, further development of renewable enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices such as synchronous condensers.

In recent years, multiple assets have been integrated into the Distributed Generation Portfolio across BESS, Flexible Gas Plant, Synchronous Condensers, and Solar.

In 2026/2027, the Distributed Generation Mobilisation Team will integrate a further 8 new solar sites (474MW) and the Poolbeg OCGT (300MW) into the remotely monitored and controlled portfolio. This role is a requirement to support the delivery of new Solar Sites into operations (Drombeg Solar, Kerry).

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include the items below in the mobilisation phase:

  • Ensure all O&M activities on construction sites are conducted in strict compliance with ESB Safety Rules.
  • Support delivery of Mobilisation Plans for new sites and report on progress.
  • Co-ordinate the Asset Handover plans for new projects.
  • Completion of pre-operational take over reviews of solar site such as substation, etc.
  • Carry out representative snagging inspections with a view to providing ESB Generation & Trading with an assessment of the state of readiness of the plant for takeover at the Commercial Operations Date.
  • Review of inspection and maintenance schedules for plant and put in place service contracts for routine O&M activities. This shall entail use of computerised asset management system.
  • Assisting with set up of spares and other materials required on site as part of site mobilisation.
  • Development of site-specific policies and procedures such as emergency response procedures.
  • Assist with development of local site induction for operational phase.
  • Collation of all relevant safety, O&M and engineering documentation and drawings required to be in place for the asset transfer.
  • Acting as Site Engineer for initial period of operation of the site prior to full transfer to Operations Manager within O&M.
  • Provide a timely site response capability in the event of an issue developing on a site during the mobilisation phase.
  • Requirement to respond to alarms and events on the site

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 8 year’s work experience in operation and maintenance of generating plant.

Desirable

  • Trained, authorised and experienced in ESB Generation and Trading SSoW Safety Rules.
  • Experience in front line maintenance activities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A Technical or Engineering Qualification (preferably Mechanical/Electrical) or equivalent experience with plant operation or maintenance.
