Divisional Assistant Accountant -  Remote with travel to Volkswagen North West & South West (multi-site)

As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the Dealership Accountant and wider Retail Finance Team to ensure the efficient, accurate and timely processing of financial transactions. Working closely with site teams and senior management, you will help maintain strong financial controls and contribute to high-quality reporting across multiple Volkswagen locations.

What you’ll do day to day

  • Support monthly financial processes, including preparation of accounts, nominal ledger balance sheet reconciliations (in line with Group 1 procedures and Sarbanes Oxley requirements), and completion of local month-end tasks to ensure timely and accurate accounts production.
  • Provide financial analysis to support business partnering and decision-making, while ensuring adherence to all financial policies, auditing standards, and Group 1 accounting procedures, escalating any non-compliance where necessary.
  • Assist with managing dealership fixed assets, processing payment requests, completing AX Manage reporting, and resolving finance-related queries for operational teams, escalating where appropriate.
  • Support dealership teams and the Finance Centre with cashiering, banking queries, and stakeholder requests, responding professionally and promptly.
  • Conduct regular debt reviews with site teams, actively investigate and clear aged items and accounting exceptions, and help ensure timely collections to minimise risk.

Helpful skills and qualifications

  • Experience in an accounting or finance support role, with strong numerical and analytical skills, including advanced Excel capability, and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
  • Confident managing multiple stakeholder requirements with a customer-first mindset, demonstrating strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Professional integrity with the ability to maintain financial control under pressure; knowledge of Keyloop/CDK/Autoline (Kerridge) is desirable.
