Document Controller

James Lewis Recruitment

Document Controller

Essex | Data Centre | Permanent

£30,000 - £45,000

If you’re a Document Controller who wants to work on a major data centre project rather than a slow-moving general construction scheme, this is a role that will give you proper exposure to complex M&E delivery.

This is not just a filing job. You’ll be supporting a technical site team delivering a large-scale data centre project in Essex, making sure drawings, RFIs, technical submissions, QA documents, commissioning information and handover records are issued, tracked, controlled and kept in order.

The project needs someone organised, accurate and confident enough to keep information moving between the project team, client, consultants, subcontractors and supply chain.

The role

You’ll take ownership of the document control process on site, supporting the project and engineering teams with the flow of technical information across the job.

That means making sure drawings are uploaded correctly, revisions are controlled, comments are tracked, submissions are issued on time and the wider team is always working from the latest information.

You’ll be working in a fast-paced data centre environment where small mistakes can cause real delays, so accuracy and attention to detail are key.

What you’ll be doing

Managing drawings, technical submissions, RFIs, reports, QA records and project documentation.

Uploading, issuing and tracking documents through the project document control system.

Maintaining drawing registers, document trackers and revision control.

Making sure site teams, subcontractors and consultants are working from current information.

Chasing outstanding approvals, comments and document responses.

Supporting the project team with meeting minutes, reports and general administration where required.

Helping prepare handover packs, O&M information and close-out documentation.

Keeping records structured, easy to find and compliant with project procedures.

Working closely with project managers, engineers, commercial staff and site teams.

What you’ll need

You’ll need experience working as a Document Controller within construction, M&E, data centres, commercial fit-out, main contracting or a technical subcontracting environment.

Experience on large M&E projects would be a strong advantage, particularly if you have supported project teams dealing with drawings, technical submissions, RFIs, QA records and handover documentation.

You’ll need to be confident using document control systems such as Aconex, Viewpoint, Asite, Field View, Dalux, SharePoint or similar.

You do not need to be a technical engineer, but you do need to understand the importance of document accuracy, revision control and clear communication on a live construction project.

The right person

You’re organised, reliable and switched on.

You can keep on top of detail without needing to be chased, and you are comfortable pushing people for information when the project needs it.

You’ll suit this role if you like structure, process and being the person the project team can rely on to keep information under control.

This is a good opportunity for a Document Controller who wants to work on a serious data centre project in Essex, with long-term technical construction exposure and a salary of £30,000 - £45,000 depending on experience.
