The Company

Our client is a leading UK main contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality projects across a diverse range of sectors within the built environment. Their London division specialises in commercial fit-out, workplace refurbishment, retail, government, and public sector projects, with project values ranging from £150,000 to £10 million.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Document Controller to join their established project delivery team.

The Role

As Document Controller, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient management, control, and distribution of project information throughout the project lifecycle.

Working closely with project teams, consultants, subcontractors, and stakeholders, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate document control processes and ensuring all project information is managed in accordance with company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage project documentation within the company's document management systems.

  • Ensure all project documentation is correctly recorded, distributed, archived, and easily traceable.

  • Generate and maintain document numbering systems in line with project protocols.

  • Manage site and project registers, including design review and drawing registers.

  • Perform quality checks on incoming and outgoing documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Issue and track document revisions, transmittals, and communication statuses.

  • Support project teams with document retrieval, reporting, and information management requirements.

  • Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, and internal departments to ensure timely document flow.

  • Assist with general project administration duties when required.

  • Ensure compliance with company quality assurance procedures and information management standards.

About You

  • Previous experience working as a Document Controller within the construction industry, ideally for a main contractor.

  • Experience working on commercial fit-out, refurbishment, or construction projects.

  • Strong understanding of document control procedures and information management processes.

  • Experience using document management systems such as SharePoint, 4Projects, Viewpoint, Aconex, Asite, or similar platforms.

  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced project environment.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across project teams.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
