We are currently recruiting for a Design & Technology Technician to join a welcoming secondary school and provide essential technical and practical support to the Design & Technology department.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a practical, hands-on background who enjoys working in a school environment and supporting students and teaching staff.
The Role
As a Design & Technology Technician, you will work closely with teaching staff to ensure the department is fully prepared and equipped for practical lessons. You will help maintain a safe, organised and well-resourced workshop environment and support the smooth delivery of practical activities.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing materials, tools and equipment for Design & Technology lessons.
- Providing practical and technical support to teaching staff during lessons.
- Ensuring workshops, classrooms and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
- Carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs of tools and equipment.
- Supporting the safe use of machinery, tools and workshop equipment.
- Monitoring stock levels and ordering materials and resources when required.
- Assisting with the preparation and production of resources and student projects.
- Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.
- Supporting teachers and students with practical projects where appropriate.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience in a workshop, engineering, manufacturing, construction, carpentry, joinery or Design & Technology environment.
School experience would be advantageous but is not essential for the right candidate.
We are particularly interested in candidates with practical experience in areas such as:
- Woodwork / carpentry / joinery
- Metalwork
- Engineering
- Product Design
- CAD/CAM
- 3D printing
- CNC machinery
- Workshop tools and equipment
You will need to be practical, organised and reliable, with a strong understanding of workshop safety and a genuine interest in supporting young people.
