White Label is working with an engineering business in Wakefield that requires an EC&I Engineer to join their team.

As an EC&I Engineer, you will be responsible for the full electrical, control, and instrumentation scope on bespoke engineered equipment - from initial design through to commissioning and customer support. You will work across both office-based design and hands-on site activities, forming a key part of a technically strong engineering team.

My client is offering a salary of up to £55,000 + benefits:

  • 23 days holiday + bank holidays
  • 40 hours per week with flexible start/finish times between 7:30am and 5:00pm
  • 5% employee / 3% employer pension contribution

Duties of the EC&I Engineer

  • Producing electrical designs for bespoke equipment including control panels, MCC/power distribution, field wiring, and safety circuits
  • Creating and maintaining electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or similar tools, alongside cable schedules, I/O lists, loop diagrams, BOMs, and panel build documentation
  • Selecting suitable electrical and instrumentation components including sensors, transmitters, valves, actuators, VSDs, motors, and safety devices
  • Writing and reviewing Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
  • Developing and maintaining PLC software across Siemens and Allen-Bradley platforms
  • Configuring HMI/SCADA systems for operator control and monitoring
  • Implementing control philosophies including interlocks, permissives, alarms, and sequence control
  • Supporting integration of instrumentation into control systems and data logging/reporting
  • Designing and implementing safety systems including e-stops, guarding, and safety relays, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and customer specifications
  • Supporting risk assessments, FMEA, and functional testing documentation
  • Liaising with panel builders and internal assembly teams to support build quality
  • Conducting and supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and producing associated commissioning documentation
  • Providing technical support to customers during installation, commissioning, and service
  • Supporting upgrades, modifications, and retrofit projects

Experience required of the EC&I Engineer

  • Proven experience as an EC&I Engineer in an industrial engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of control panels, electrical wiring, instrumentation, and industrial automation
  • Hands-on PLC programming experience — Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley preferred
  • Ability to read and produce electrical schematics and associated engineering documentation
  • Strong fault-finding skills across electrical and control systems
  • Sound understanding of industrial safety circuits and safe working practices
  • Comfortable working across both office-based design and hands-on commissioning activities
