The Opportunity

The successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality ecological and environmental compliance services throughout the construction phase of development projects, providing practical advice to contractors, clients and project teams.

Projects range from planning and enabling works through construction and post-construction monitoring, providing broad experience across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the on-site Ecological and/or Environmental Clerk of Works.
• Advise contractors, developers and project teams on environmental and ecological requirements during construction.
• Monitor compliance with planning conditions, protected species licences, environmental commitments and regulatory requirements.
• Undertake routine site inspections, audits and environmental compliance monitoring.
• Ensure mitigation measures and environmental controls are implemented effectively.
• Deliver environmental and ecological toolbox talks and workforce briefings.
• Monitor pollution prevention measures and environmental best practice.
• Undertake water quality monitoring and sample collection where required.
• Attend contractor, client and project meetings.
• Produce ECoW logs, compliance records and technical reports.
• Support the preparation and review of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) and associated documentation.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, statutory bodies and other stakeholders.
• Assist with the planning and delivery of ecological surveys where required.
• Support tender preparation, client relationship management and business development activities.
• Contribute to technical knowledge-sharing initiatives and best practice development.

Candidate Specification

Essential Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline.

Essential Experience

• Minimum of 3 years' relevant professional experience.
• Experience working as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW), Environmental Advisor or similar role.
• Experience supporting construction-phase projects and undertaking environmental compliance monitoring.
• Experience advising contractors and site personnel on environmental requirements.
• Experience producing technical reports and compliance documentation.
• Experience working directly with clients and project stakeholders.

Essential Knowledge

• Strong understanding of UK ecological and environmental legislation, policy and guidance.
• Knowledge of planning conditions, environmental commitments and construction-phase environmental management.
• Understanding of pollution prevention requirements and environmental best practice.
• Awareness of ecological mitigation measures and protected species considerations.

Essential Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong report writing skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to provide clear, practical and commercially aware environmental advice.
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work to programme deadlines.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office and standard reporting packages.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team..

• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across Scotland.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

• Associate or Full Membership of CIEEM (or equivalent professional body), or working towards membership.
• Valid CSCS card.
• Experience within renewable energy, infrastructure, peatland restoration or habitat restoration projects.
• Protected species survey experience.
• Experience delivering toolbox talks and workforce briefings.
• Experience undertaking water quality monitoring and environmental sampling.
• Experience preparing or contributing to Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
• Experience liaising with statutory consultees, regulators and environmental stakeholders.
• Experience supporting project management, tender preparation and business development activities.
