Electrical Design Engineer in Poole, Dorset

Fortress Recruit is supporting a leading engineering organisation in their search for a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join their specialist team based in Poole.

This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership of electrical design projects across the full product lifecycle, from initial concept and detailed design, through to verification, manufacturing support and beyond. You’ll be involved in developing innovative and robust electrical solutions for use in demanding environments, ensuring quality, performance, and compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading electrical design activities in line with customer requirements, regulations, and internal procedures
• Creating detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings using industry-standard CAD tools
• Producing and maintaining technical documentation including specifications, BOMs, and test plans
• Supporting product verification, validation, and design reviews across the lifecycle
• Providing technical guidance to other engineers and contributing to process and design improvements
• Ensuring projects are delivered to quality, cost, and schedule targets
• Maintaining knowledge of relevant technologies and best practices in electrical engineering
• Offering technical support to other departments and customer-facing teams

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A recognised qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Degree, HND, or equivalent)
• Proven experience in electrical/electronic design within a relevant industry
• Working knowledge of electrical/electronic CAD software, MRP systems, and MS Office
• Understanding of full product development lifecycle, from concept to production
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with a proactive and detail-focused approach
• Professional registration (IEng or working towards) is desirable

Unlike many Electrical Design Engineer positions, this role offers exposure beyond schematic design. You'll be involved in system level cable routing, cabinet design, production support and qualification testing, giving you genuine ownership throughout the complete engineering lifecycle from concept through to manufacture and customer acceptance.

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Poole, with occasional travel to other sites or customer locations in the UK and overseas. On offer is a competitive salary plus training and development opportunities for those with a passion to progress their career further.
