Electrical Design Engineer

Purpose

To support the delivery of high-quality electrical engineering designs for water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the UK. Working within a multidisciplinary water engineering team, you will produce electrical design deliverables, collaborate with senior engineers and contribute to water projects from concept and detailed design through to construction.

Responsibilities

  • Produce electrical engineering designs for water and wastewater projects that meet safety, quality and client requirements.

  • Prepare electrical design calculations, drawings, reports and technical specifications for water and wastewater treatment infrastructure.

  • Develop LV electrical designs for water treatment plants, wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and associated assets under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Work closely with CAD technicians to produce accurate and coordinated water engineering design drawings.

  • Liaise with equipment suppliers, manufacturers and other engineering disciplines involved in water-sector project delivery.

  • Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, British Standards, water industry specifications and company procedures.

  • Assist with water project design reviews, risk assessments and value-engineering exercises.

  • Support the implementation and recording of electrical design changes throughout water project delivery.

  • Contribute to estimating design hours for allocated tasks.

  • Attend client, supplier and internal water project design meetings as required.

  • Continue developing technical and water industry knowledge through mentoring, CPD and professional development.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Three to five years’ electrical design experience within the UK water industry.

  • Experience producing LV electrical designs for water or wastewater treatment projects.

  • Working knowledge of relevant British Standards and UK water industry design practices.

  • Experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Understanding of multidisciplinary water engineering and design environments.

  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Working towards Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status.

  • Experience with ICA, control systems or telemetry within the water industry.

  • Knowledge of ATEX design principles.

  • Experience using Amtech, Trimble ProDesign or similar electrical design software.

  • Familiarity with BIM processes and Common Data Environments, such as ProjectWise or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
