We’re currently on the lookout for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of electrical systems for a variety of industrial and commercial projects, producing high-quality designs that meet client specifications, industry standards and project requirements.
Working closely with project managers, panel builders, installation engineers and clients, you will play a key role in delivering innovative, safe and cost-effective electrical engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce electrical designs for industrial control systems, motor control centres (MCCs), control panels, LV distribution systems and process installations.
- Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single line diagrams, termination schedules and cable schedules using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or similar design software.
- Prepare design calculations and ensure compliance with relevant British Standards, customer specifications and industry regulations.
- Select appropriate electrical components and equipment for each application.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, production teams and installation engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Attend client meetings and site visits where required to gather design information and support project delivery.
- Produce technical documentation including bills of materials, design specifications and operating manuals.
- Review and check designs to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance before manufacture.
- Support commissioning engineers by providing technical assistance during factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).
- Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, standardisation and project delivery.
- Ensure designs comply with company quality procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Keep up to date with developments in electrical engineering standards, legislation and emerging technologies.
Candidate Details
We are looking for someone with the following experience and qualifications:
Essential
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in electrical design within an industrial environment – food and beverage manufacturing industry advantageous.
- Experience designing control panels, MCCs, LV distribution systems or industrial electrical installations.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent electrical design software.
- Good understanding of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and relevant electrical standards.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and technical documentation.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Siemens, Schneider Electric, Rockwell or Mitsubishi control systems.
- Understanding of functional safety and machinery safety standards.
- Experience with hazardous area (ATEX) installations.
- Knowledge of 3D electrical design software.
Working Hours
- Full time – 37.5 hours per week, with overtime available
- Mon-Thrs (08:00-16:30) & Fri (08:00-13:30)
