Contract Electrical Designer – Solar & LV Projects

Location: Hybrid/Remote (UK-based)

Rate: Competitive day/hourly rate (DOE)

Duration: Ongoing contract with potential for long-term/permanent opportunity

The Opportunity

A growing renewable energy and electrical engineering business is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to support a pipeline of commercial and utility-scale solar projects across the UK.

This role is ideal for someone with strong LV electrical design experience, particularly within the solar PV sector, who is comfortable producing electrical layouts, single line diagrams (SLDs), and design documentation. Candidates with a practical electrical background (e.g., qualified electricians who have moved into design) are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce LV electrical designs for commercial and utility-scale solar PV installations.

  • Create and amend single line diagrams (SLDs), electrical layouts, and associated documentation.

  • Support designs involving batteries, EV infrastructure, and other renewable technologies.

  • Ensure designs comply with BS 7671 / IET Wiring Regulations.

  • Collaborate with project and engineering teams via Microsoft Teams and other digital platforms.

Requirements
  • Experience as an Electrical Designer, Electrical Design Engineer, or similar.

  • Strong knowledge of LV electrical systems and BS 7671.

  • Experience within the solar PV sector (ground mount, rooftop, or utility-scale projects).

  • Proficiency with Trimble, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote/hybrid environment.

Desirable
  • Qualified electrician background.

  • Experience with Medium Voltage (MV) systems.

  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and EV infrastructure.
