Amentum is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

amentum are now looking to build the Electrical Control & Instrumentation capability within PPP across all our Projects

We are now expecting several projects to have exciting opportunities to recruit Electrical Engineers to join the team in either Birchwood or Cumbria.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ROLES ARE EXPECTED TO START LATER THIS YEAR/ EARLY PART OF 2027.

The Role

As an Electrical Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide electrical design support to various phases of the project including detailed design, procurement, manufacture, construction, commissioning and installation activities.
  • Management of electrical design configuration baseline in response to developing project requirements and design information from the supply chain.
  • Producing, updating and reviewing electrical design deliverables to programme deadlines and in accordance with relevant standards, codes, regulations and client engineering requirements.
  • Supporting the development of electrical system designs including power distribution, lighting, earthing and bonding, cable management systems and associated equipment.
  • Working with the supply chain to support design aspects of contracts, ensuring suppliers meet client Engineering Standards, responding to Technical Queries, supporting production of test specifications and attendance at Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Integrating and coordinating electrical systems into the wider project through Building Information Modelling (BIM), working collaboratively with mechanical, civil, process and non-technical disciplines.
  • Supporting electrical calculations, studies and assessments including load assessments, cable sizing, protection coordination and electrical equipment selection.
  • Developing technical competence by working closely with senior and lead engineers.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that throughout the remaining phases of the project lifecycle, the electrical design intent remains aligned with safety case requirements (nuclear and conventional), relevant legislation and project functional requirements, ensuring validation and verification activities are adequately managed.
  • Supporting commissioning and handover activities, ensuring electrical systems are delivered safely and in accordance with project requirements.

As an Electrical Engineer you will have:

  • BEng/MEng degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline, or demonstrable equivalent experience supported by an HNC/HND qualification.
  • Professionally registered, or working towards registration, with a relevant professional institution (e.g. IET).
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role. Previous Nuclear industry experience is highly desirable, although not essential where suitable transferable experience can be demonstrated.
  • Evidence of design competence through previous projects and engineering delivery.
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical standards and regulations including BS 7671, IEC standards and electrical safety requirements.
  • Experience of electrical design software and engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Trimble/Amtech, ETAP, SKM or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
