Our client, a prestigious university based in Central London, is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their Estates and Facilities team on an ongoing temporary basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large and diverse campus environment, supporting the maintenance and operation of critical building services across academic, teaching, research and student facilities.

The Role

Reporting to the Estates and Maintenance team, you will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a wide range of electrical systems and associated building services infrastructure.You will play a key role in ensuring the university estate remains safe, compliant and fully operational, whilst delivering a high standard of customer service to staff, students and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Maintain and inspect lighting systems, small power and distribution equipment.
  • Conduct testing, inspection and minor installation works where required.
  • Support the maintenance of emergency lighting and fire alarm systems.
  • Carry out routine plant room inspections and equipment checks.
  • Complete maintenance records, job sheets and compliance documentation.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers and other facilities personnel.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety legislation and university procedures.
  • Support wider building services maintenance activities when required.

Requirements

  • Recognised electrical qualification such as City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification preferred.
  • Previous experience in a commercial, public sector, healthcare, educational or similar environment.
  • Strong fault-finding and maintenance skills.
  • Good understanding of planned preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and safe systems of work.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a university, educational or large multi-building estate.
  • Knowledge of building management systems (BMS).
  • Experience with generators, UPS systems, controls or mechanical building services.
  • City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent testing and inspection qualification.
