Electrical Engineer (PLC Specialist)
Diss, Norfolk | £50,000 | 🕒 37.5 hours (Early Finish Fridays)

We’re recruiting for an Electrical Engineer with strong PLC experience to join a well-established international manufacturing business based in Diss. This is a hands-on, autonomous role focused on fault finding, troubleshooting, and supporting complex electrical and control system issues across a live production environment.

The Role
You’ll act as the go-to escalation point for medium to high-level electrical and electronic faults, particularly where issues go beyond obvious breakdowns. The role involves regular hands-on support to breakdowns, with a strong emphasis on root cause analysis and long-term solutions. You’ll be heavily involved with PLCs, drives, and control systems, working across both legacy and modern equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advanced electrical and electronic fault finding (PLCs, drives, sensors)
  • PLC and drive programming/modifications (modification experience considered)
  • Supporting breakdowns and improving system reliability
  • Obsolescence reviews and component upgrades
  • Delivering small automation projects (panel rewires, upgrades, energy initiatives)
  • Supporting larger upgrade projects, including PLC migrations (e.g. S5 to S7)
  • Working closely with OEMs, while remaining hands-on and self-sufficient

Hours & Package

  • 37.5 hours per week (typically 8–4 or 9–5, earlier start preferred)
  • Early finish on Fridays
  • No on-call requirement
  • Salary up to £50,000

About You

  • Ideally 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Strong electrical, electronics, and controls background
  • Proven fault-finding ability on live production equipment
  • Experience with a range of machinery and PLC/control systems
  • Comfortable working independently with a high level of responsibility
  • Qualifications are less important than experience and attitude

The Environment
You’ll be part of a 16-person engineering team across various shifts, supporting the double days team. The site offers a stable, supportive culture with plenty of autonomy, along with ongoing training and development opportunities.

Interview Process

  • One-stage, face-to-face interview
  • Includes site tour and technical/scenario-based discussion
  • Hiring process moving quickly

If you’re a proactive Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and working with PLC-driven systems, this is a great opportunity to join a forward-thinking manufacturing environment.
