Description

Electrical Engineer Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance works.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults across distribution boards, lighting, power systems, and control panels.
  • Undertake statutory inspections, testing, and compliance activities including emergency lighting and electrical systems.
  • Support installation, modification, and upgrade projects.
  • Record maintenance activities using mobile and digital reporting systems.
  • Ensure compliance with current electrical regulations, health and safety legislation, and university procedures.
  • Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support apprentices and junior colleagues through knowledge sharing and mentoring.
  • Participate in the engineering on-call rota, responding to urgent issues when required.

Profile

A successful Electrical Engineer should have:

  • Recognised electrical qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, AM2, JTL Apprenticeship, or equivalent.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.
  • Experience in a maintenance-focused electrical engineering role.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Good understanding of electrical compliance and health & safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of building services and safe working practices.
  • Comfortable using digital systems including CAFM software, tablets, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and email.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.

Job Offer

  • Salary range of £39,000 to £43,900 dependent on the level of experience.
