We are working with a well-established engineering and manufacturing business to recruit an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager for their operations in Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland. This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for leading and developing the electrical engineering function while overseeing the delivery of complex engineering projects from initial concept and detailed design through validation and into production. The role combines technical leadership, people management and project delivery, working closely with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, sales and other functions to ensure electrical systems are robust, compliant, commercially viable and designed effectively for manufacture. This would be an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys remaining close to the technical detail while also building, mentoring and developing a high-performing engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage and develop the Electrical Engineering team, creating a culture of technical excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Oversee multiple engineering projects from concept and detailed design through validation and production release.
- Allocate engineering resources effectively across multiple programmes and priorities.
- Ensure projects are delivered to agreed timescales, scope, quality and budget.
- Provide technical leadership and support the resolution of complex electrical engineering challenges.
- Support new product development alongside the continuous improvement of existing products.
- Lead technical and design reviews throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Ensure electrical designs meet relevant customer, regulatory and engineering standards.
- Review and approve electrical drawings, calculations, specifications and associated design documentation.
- Ensure appropriate verification and validation testing is completed prior to production release.
- Manage engineering changes and associated documentation.
- Work closely with Manufacturing to ensure designs are optimised for manufacture, assembly and serviceability.
- Support value engineering, component standardisation and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering on the development of fully integrated electro-mechanical systems.
- Work with Supply Chain, Sales, Product Management and After-Sales teams to support customer requirements and ongoing product development.
- Improve engineering processes, workflows and design standardisation.
- Drive improvements in product performance, reliability, efficiency and sustainability.
- Recruit, mentor and develop engineering talent within the business.
Requirements:
We are looking for an experienced electrical engineering professional with a strong combination of technical expertise and engineering leadership.
Ideally, you will have:
A degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Significant experience designing and developing electrical systems within a manufacturing or OEM environment.
Strong engineering leadership experience, ideally including several years managing and developing technical teams.
Experience working with heavy equipment, mobile machinery, specialist vehicles, industrial machinery or other complex electro-mechanical products.
Proven experience delivering engineering projects across the full product development lifecycle, from concept through to production.
Strong knowledge of electrical system design, machine control systems and electrical integration.
A good understanding of manufacturing processes and designing products with manufacturability, assembly and serviceability in mind.
Experience working within a structured or regulated engineering environment.
Experience implementing engineering process improvements, standardisation or continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience using electrical design/CAD software such as EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, DraftSight or similar platforms.
Strong technical judgement, analytical ability and problem-solving skills.
Commercial awareness and an understanding of manufacturing cost drivers.
The ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
A track record of motivating, mentoring and developing engineers.
Experience within construction equipment, materials handling, agricultural machinery, quarrying and crushing equipment, off-highway vehicles, defence, heavy plant, industrial automation, special-purpose machinery or wider OEM manufacturing would be particularly relevant.
