Electrical Estimator

David Leslie Ltd

Electrical Estimator | Building Services | East London | £60,000–£75,000 + Benefits Package

A long-established and highly respected Electrical Building Services contractor based in East London is looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Estimator to join their Pre-Construction team.

The company has been operating for approximately 50 years and has developed from a family-run business into a highly respected SME, delivering electrical and security services for a diverse and longstanding client base.

Projects span commercial, healthcare, education, public-sector, research, sports and specialist environments, with clients including blue-chip organisations, universities, schools, NHS facilities, research laboratories, local authorities and major commercial businesses.

The successful candidate will work across a varied portfolio of term contracts, Design & Build schemes and fully specified projects, with electrical tender values ranging from approximately £10,000 through to £1 million.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Estimator looking to join a stable and growing contractor offering a strong pipeline of work, a collaborative working environment and genuine scope to play an important role in the continued development of the estimating function.

The business offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced and close-knit team of Estimators and Project Managers, take ownership of increasingly substantial tenders and contribute directly to the company’s long-term commercial growth.

The Role

The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and commercially competitive tenders across a broad range of electrical projects throughout London, Essex and the wider South East.

Working closely with the Estimating Manager, Project Managers, Directors, clients, suppliers and subcontractors, you will manage tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission and project handover.

The role will include the interpretation of drawings and specifications, take-offs, labour and material quantification, supplier and subcontractor engagement, value engineering, site surveys and the preparation of detailed tender submissions.

You will also play an important role in the continued development of the company’s estimating processes, including helping to implement and embed new estimating software within the business.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have proven Electrical Estimating experience, ideally gained with an Electrical or M&E Building Services contractor.

You should have:

  • Strong Electrical Estimating experience within the Building Services sector
  • Experience tendering commercial, healthcare, education, public-sector or similarly complex projects
  • The ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and tender documentation
  • Experience completing electrical take-offs and accurately quantifying labour, materials and plant
  • Strong supplier and subcontractor negotiation skills
  • Experience preparing commercially competitive tender submissions
  • Good knowledge of value engineering and cost-saving opportunities
  • The ability to identify project risk, buildability issues and the requirement for site surveys
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills
  • Good commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage multiple tenders and submission deadlines

Experience using Eque2 Evaluate estimating software would be particularly advantageous, although candidates with strong experience using comparable Electrical Estimating software will also be considered.

An Electrical City & Guilds or NVQ qualification is preferred, together with a good working knowledge of BS7671. An 18th Edition qualification and Electrical Engineering HNC would also be advantageous but are not essential.

Experience or knowledge of CCTV and security systems would be beneficial, although training can be provided.

Remuneration

The successful candidate will receive:

  • £60,000–£75,000 basic salary
  • Benefits package
  • 24 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • JIB healthcare scheme
  • Fixed Christmas bonus subject to company conditions
  • Laptop, IT equipment and mobile phone
  • Long-term career opportunity with an established and growing Electrical Building Services contractor

The final package will reflect the successful candidate’s experience, technical knowledge and background.
