The Role
As an Electrical Estimator, you will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical building services projects. Working closely with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal delivery teams, you will play a key role in securing new business opportunities and ensuring projects are commercially viable from the outset.
The successful candidate will have experience within the M&E sector and be comfortable interpreting technical specifications, undertaking take-offs and preparing detailed tender submissions for projects ranging from small works through to large-scale contracts.
Typical Projects
The successful candidate will be involved in pricing and tendering a wide range of mechanical and electrical building services projects, including:
- Commercial developments
- Industrial and manufacturing facilities
- Healthcare projects
- Educational facilities including schools, colleges and universities
- Retail and leisure developments
- Warehousing and distribution centres
- Local authority and public sector developments
- Refurbishment, fit-out and new-build projects
- Prepare accurate and detailed electrical cost estimates and tender submissions for M&E building services projects.
- Review tender documentation, specifications, drawings and employer's requirements to establish project scope and pricing strategy.
- Undertake detailed take-offs and measurements from drawings and schedules.
- Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
- Attend site surveys, pre-tender meetings and client visits where required.
- Evaluate project risks, opportunities and value engineering options during the tender stage.
- Liaise closely with clients, consultants, project managers and internal departments throughout the bid process.
- Ensure all estimates are commercially competitive whilst maintaining profitability.
- Assist with the preparation of budgets, cost plans and variation quotations.
- Support the project delivery team through the handover process on successful tenders.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and provide reporting information as required.
- Monitor market trends, material pricing and supply chain performance to ensure competitive tendering.
Essential
- Previous experience as an Electrical Estimator within an M&E contractor or building services environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical building services installations, including power, lighting, containment, fire alarms, data and associated systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Experience preparing estimates for commercial, industrial or public-sector construction projects.
- Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills.
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple tender submissions and work to strict deadlines.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience using estimating software packages.
- Knowledge of current building services regulations, standards and industry best practices.
- Experience working alongside mechanical estimating teams on combined M&E tenders.
