Major Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Field Electrical Engineer for a business specialising in the design, manufacture, installation, servicing and refurbishment of waste management and recycling equipment.

This is a varied, hands-on position involving electrical, mechanical and hydraulic fault finding across customer sites throughout the UK, with occasional travel to Ireland and Europe.

The role would suit an experienced Electrical Engineer with strong industrial maintenance and fault-finding skills who is comfortable undertaking mechanical and hydraulic work as part of a field-based position.



The Role

Working independently and as part of an experienced engineering team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Installing, commissioning and servicing new and refurbished waste and recycling equipment

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs

  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults

  • Refurbishing and relocating waste and recycling machinery

  • Conducting operator training following equipment installations

  • Completing electronic service reports, check sheets and timesheets

  • Carrying out root cause analysis and recommending improvements to prevent recurring faults

  • Providing technical support and a high standard of customer service

You will work on equipment including conveyors, balers, compactors, shredders, strappers, tippers, overband magnets and eddy current separators.



Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm

  • 42.5 hours per week, with overtime paid after 39 hours

  • Regular overtime available

  • Nationwide travel with overnight stays, sometimes for up to seven consecutive nights

  • Occasional weekend and night work

  • On-call rota of one week in five



About You

You will have a strong electrical engineering background, alongside practical mechanical and hydraulic maintenance experience.

Essential requirements include:

  • Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering

  • 16th, 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

  • PLC programming knowledge and experience

  • Experience fault finding on 24V control circuits and three-phase electrical systems

  • Experience testing and repairing electrical control systems, motors, sensors, contactors, relays and associated components

  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical drawings

  • Experience assembling, wiring and modifying electrical control panels to current UK standards

  • Knowledge of fixed wiring installations and electrical modifications

  • Strong mechanical and hydraulic fault-finding and repair skills

  • Ability to carry out root cause analysis and identify long-term solutions

  • Good IT skills and experience completing electronic service documentation

  • Full, clean UK driving licence

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to travel, stay away from home and participate in the on-call rota

  • Own general hand tools, with specialist tools provided
