About the Role
Reporting to the Team Leader, an electrical fitter is responsible for the assembly, wiring, and pre-testing of bespoke LV switchgear and control panels. This hands-on role requires technical competence, accuracy and the ability to work to engineering drawings and wiring schematics.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in electrical assembly, strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Panel Assembly: Build and assemble LV switchgear and control panels according to engineering drawings and specifications
- Wiring & Terminations: Complete electrical wiring, terminations, and connections to a high standard of accuracy and safety
- Quality Control: Adhere to quality procedures, ensuring all work is completed to specification and meets internal QA checks
- Documentation: Maintain accurate build and test records, highlighting any issues or modifications required
- Health & Safety: Follow company health and safety procedures, maintaining a safe working environment at all times
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure build schedules are met and customer requirements are delivered on time
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute ideas to improve build processes, efficiency and product quality
- Testing: May be required to assist with functional and insulation testing of panels, ensuring compliance with company and industry standards
Key Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation or a related discipline
- Experience in electrical manufacturing or switchgear assembly
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring schematics
- Good knowledge of LV electrical systems and components
- Competence with hand tools, crimping and cable management
- High attention to detail, accuracy and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong awareness of health and safety standards
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable (but not essential)
- BS 7671 – 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Previous experience within a switchgear or electrical manufacturing environment
- Valid ECS/CSCS card
- Experience with busbar systems, MCCs or package substations
