Electrical Installation Engineer – Generator Systems

Permanent | Full Time

Salary: £45,000 + Van + Regular Overtime
Location: Glasgow, Scotland – with travel across Scotland

Our client is recruiting an experienced Electrical Installation Engineer to join a growing power generation business specialising in standby power and critical power solutions for commercial and industrial customers.

This is a hands-on, site-based role for an electrically qualified engineer with proven experience in the installation of diesel and gas-powered generators within commercial environments. You will work across a varied portfolio of projects, from smaller standby generator installations through to larger, more complex power generation schemes. Your focus will be on the electrical installation, integration and modification of generator systems and their associated infrastructure, ensuring every project is delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical standards.

Flexibility to travel and work away is essential. Some weeks may involve just a few days away, while busier projects could require one or two weeks away out of every four. Accommodation and food allowances are provided when working away, alongside overtime opportunities to support project delivery and completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and integrate electrical systems associated with commercial diesel and gas-powered generators.
  • Work on projects of varying sizes, from smaller standby units to larger-scale generator installations.
  • Install and terminate power and control cabling, containment, switchgear, distribution boards and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Support the installation of automatic transfer switches (ATS), automatic mains failure (AMF) panels, generator controls and synchronisation systems.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, wiring schematics and technical specifications.
  • Carry out electrical inspections, testing, fault finding and modifications to existing installations.
  • Support commissioning engineers during testing, generator changeovers, synchronisation and load testing.
  • Coordinate site activities, materials and subcontractors to ensure installations progress to programme.
  • Complete installation records, inspection documentation and handover information.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in commercial or industrial electrical installation.
  • Hands-on experience installing diesel and gas-powered generators within commercial environments.
  • Experience working on a mixture of smaller installations and larger, more complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution, power and control cabling, switchgear and generator control systems.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical specifications.
  • Experience with ATS/AMF systems, synchronisation panels, critical power infrastructure, data centres or industrial power generation would be advantageous.
  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation + 18th Edition Wiring Regulations + City & Guilds 2391 (Valid ECS Card)
  • Good understanding of electrical testing, safe isolation and site health and safety requirements.
  • Full UK driving licence.

What's on Offer?

  • £45,000 basic salary
  • Commercial van and fuel card
  • Door-to-door pay, including travel time
  • Accommodation and food allowances when working away
  • Overtime opportunities, particularly around project completion
  • A varied workload covering both smaller installations and larger, technically challenging generator projects
  • The opportunity to develop your technical expertise within a growing power generation business
