The Company:

An established and technically advanced manufacturing business in Newcastle is looking to recruit a Maintenance Technician to strengthen its engineering team.

Operating within a specialist electronics and high-tech manufacturing environment, the business uses a range of automated production, inspection and control equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance Technician who enjoys fault finding, problem solving and working across electrical, electronic, automation and mechanical systems.

You'll join a business focused on equipment reliability, operational efficiency and continuous improvement, with the opportunity to develop your knowledge of specialist manufacturing technology.

Working Hours:

Full-time, permanent position.

Job Description:

As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and improving manufacturing equipment to maximise uptime and production performance.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Responding to breakdowns and diagnosing equipment faults
  • Electrical and electronic fault finding across PLCs, sensors, control systems, motors and drives
  • Maintaining automated manufacturing and production machinery
  • Diagnosing mechanical faults involving bearings, belts, chains, conveyors and pneumatic systems
  • Supporting equipment installation, commissioning and upgrades
  • Carrying out root cause analysis on recurring equipment issues
  • Supporting Lean, TPM and continuous improvement activities
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and critical spare levels

The equipment includes SMT machinery, reflow ovens, soldering systems, automated inspection equipment, pick-and-place machinery and associated production systems.

Skills & Experience:

The successful Maintenance Technician will ideally have:

  • Previous maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong electrical and electronic fault-finding skills
  • Good mechanical maintenance knowledge
  • Experience with automated equipment and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
  • A recognised engineering qualification – HNC, HND, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • PLC diagnostic experience would be advantageous
  • Experience within electronics, PCB, SMT or high-tech manufacturing would be beneficial
  • Experience with servo systems, robotics, machine vision or industrial networks would also be advantageous
