The Role
The Electrical Maintenance Technician will install, maintain, test, diagnose faults in and
repair a wide range of electrical plant and associated components.
Typical equipment will include single-phase and three-phase LV power generation and
distribution systems, earthing systems, switch panels, transformers, motors,
generators, lighting systems and circuit-protection devices.
Key Responsibilities
• Diagnose electrical and electromechanical faults promptly and efficiently.
• Install, maintain, test and repair electrical plant and associated components.
• Support the safe and reliable operation of the manufacturing plant.
• Work in accordance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Read and interpret maintenance specifications, engineering drawings, wiring
diagrams, quality standards and equipment manuals.
• Follow work instructions, maintenance plans and schedules.
• Update and circulate as-built drawings where required.
• Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency and operational safety.
• Develop appropriate plant modification requests.
• Select and use suitable tools and electrical test equipment.
• Identify electrical defects and determine the appropriate response.
• Communicate technical information clearly.
• Use digital systems and equipment to support maintenance tasks.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and information.
Qualifications and Experience
• An ECITB apprenticeship or another relevant electrical apprenticeship.
• Alternatively, an HNC or HND supported by appropriate experience.
• A valid CompEx inspection certificate covering Ex01–Ex04.
• Sound knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations.
• Experience of working within a formal Permit to Work system and Site Safety
Management System.
• Experience within a hazardous, process or highly regulated manufacturing
environment.
• Knowledge of fire and gas detection and protection systems.
• Knowledge of emergency shutdown systems.
• LV Authorised status and suitable training in the current IET Wiring Regulations.
• Relay-protection training would be beneficial.
• LV/HV switching and isolation training would be beneficial.
• HV Authorisation would be expected for a fully competent appointment.
• A working knowledge of food-industry practices would be advantageous.
