Electrical Quantity Surveyor
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Quantity Surveyor to join a busy and growing electrical services contractor. The successful candidate will be responsible for the commercial management of electrical projects from tender stage through to final account, ensuring projects are delivered profitably, accurately and in line with contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed electrical tenders, estimates and quotations from drawings, specifications and project documentation.
- Carry out accurate quantity take-offs and measurement of electrical works and materials.
- Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Assist with tender submissions, cost plans and project budgets.
- Manage project costs, variations, valuations and applications for payment.
- Monitor project expenditure, labour costs, material costs and overall profitability.
- Prepare and maintain accurate cost reports and commercial forecasts.
- Identify, price and negotiate variations and additional works.
- Review subcontractor accounts, invoices and applications for payment.
- Assist with procurement and ensure materials and services are competitively sourced.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Contracts Managers, electricians and clients to resolve commercial and technical issues.
- Maintain accurate records of costs, measurements, variations and contractual documentation.
- Assist with monthly valuations, cash-flow forecasting and final accounts.
- Support the preparation and agreement of final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
- Ensure commercial activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures, contracts and relevant industry standards.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as an Electrical Quantity Surveyor, Electrical Estimator or in a similar commercial role.
- Strong knowledge of electrical installations and construction practices.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and schedules.
- Experience with electrical quantity take-offs, estimating and cost management.
- Good understanding of construction contracts, variations and valuations.
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident negotiating with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and estimating/project management software.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a wider project team.
Desirable
- Experience within commercial, industrial, residential or public-sector electrical projects.
- Relevant Quantity Surveying, Construction or Electrical qualification.
- Experience using estimating and measurement software.
- Knowledge of current electrical standards and construction legislation.
