Sapien are looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Technician to support the build, installation, commissioning, and fault diagnosis of electrical systems on prototype and low and high volume vehicles.
Our client are a British engineering company based near Clapham, that designs and builds extreme off road vehicles. Their vehicles are used by explorers, aid organisations and military personnel who need to operate in challenging environments and remote areas with limited infrastructure.
Working in a fast paced development environment, you will manufacture wiring harnesses, integrate electrical systems, diagnose faults, and work closely with Electrical Engineers to deliver high quality prototype vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture LV and HV wiring harnesses from engineering drawings and build documentation.
- Assemble and terminate automotive electrical and high-voltage connectors.
- Install, route, and secure vehicle wiring harnesses to meet quality and serviceability standards.
- Build, modify, and repair prototype electrical systems throughout vehicle development.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, connector pin-outs, and harness drawings.
- Integrate ECUs, sensors, actuators, lighting, power distribution units, and other vehicle electrical systems.
- Manufacture HV cable assemblies using approved tooling and processes.
- Carry out continuity, insulation resistance, and functional testing.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical faults using wiring diagrams, multimeters, oscilloscopes, CAN tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Support vehicle commissioning, development testing, and engineering investigations.
- Maintain accurate build records and provide feedback to improve design and manufacturability.
- Ensure all work complies with quality standards and LV/HV safety procedures.
- Mentor junior technicians and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience as an Automotive Electrical Technician in a prototype, motorsport, specialist vehicle, or OEM environment.
- Proven experience manufacturing automotive wiring harnesses.
- Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience using multimeters, insulation resistance testers, oscilloscopes, and automotive diagnostic equipment.
- Good understanding of CAN and automotive communication networks.
- Knowledge of automotive wiring standards and best practices.
- Experience working safely on high-voltage vehicle systems.
