Electrical Tester

Company Info

Novatec Electrical Services is a growing electrical contractor based in East Kilbride, specialising in electrical installations, maintenance, inspection and testing, and infrastructure within the petrol filling station industry.

We work on projects throughout the UK, from routine electrical testing and maintenance through to major site redevelopments and large-scale EV charging hubs.

As the UK moves towards electric vehicles, we’re working at the forefront of this transition and are already a major contractor within the EV infrastructure sector. Alongside our petrol station work, we also deliver electrical services across a wide range of commercial and industrial environments, including bus and truck depots, banks and food outlets.

We’re ambitious, growing quickly and looking for electrical testers who want to build a long-term career with a company that can offer progression, variety and job security.

About the Role

Due to a significant increase in our nationwide electrical testing workload, we’re looking to recruit two experienced, time-served Electrical Testers to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The main focus of the role will be carrying out Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) across petrol filling stations and a range of commercial and industrial premises throughout the UK.

You’ll be responsible for completing inspections thoroughly and efficiently, accurately identifying defects and ensuring all certification is completed to a consistently high standard.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out EICRs on commercial and industrial electrical installations

  • Identifying, recording and accurately coding electrical defects

  • Completing electrical certification and reports to a high standard

  • Completing associated remedial works where required

  • Ensuring all work complies with current regulations and company procedures

  • Working safely within live petrol filling station and commercial environments

  • Liaising professionally with customers, site teams and project management

  • Working independently and as part of the wider Novatec team

The role is ideal for an experienced tester who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work and wants the security of a substantial, long-term testing programme.

Occasional travel and working away from home throughout the UK is an essential part of the role. This will generally be Monday to Friday, with no requirement for weekend working away from home.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • To be a time-served electrician

  • City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification, or a recognised equivalent

  • 18th Edition qualification

  • A current/in-date ECS card

  • A full UK driving licence with six points or fewer

  • Strong experience carrying out EICRs

  • A thorough understanding of BS 7671 and electrical defect classification

  • Experience completing electrical certification accurately

  • The ability to work efficiently and to a high standard with minimal supervision

  • A professional and reliable approach to work

  • A strong commitment to health and safety

  • Flexibility to work away from home throughout the UK

Experience working within petrol filling stations or other hazardous-area environments would be advantageous but is not essential.

A current CompEx qualification would also be advantageous. However, training can be provided for the right candidate.

What We Offer

  • Company van and fuel card

  • Company uniform and testing equipment provided

  • 31 days’ annual leave

  • Pension and sick pay

  • Further training and development opportunities

  • Overtime and on-call opportunities

  • Long-term career progression opportunities

  • A secure position supported by a substantial nationwide EICR programme

  • Opportunity to work across major electrical and EV infrastructure projects

We’re looking for people who take pride in their work and understand the importance of delivering accurate electrical reports and a high-quality, professional service to our customers.

Working Hours

Monday–Thursday: 8:00am–4:30pm
Friday: 8:00am–2:30pm

Additional earnings are available through overtime, on-call shifts and away-from-home uplifts.

Is This Role for You?

This position would suit an experienced electrical tester who is looking for a secure, long-term position with a growing company, rather than simply their next job.

If you enjoy inspection and testing, take pride in producing accurate work and want to be part of a growing nationwide electrical contractor, we’d like to hear from you.
