Electronics Design Engineer

Are you an experienced Electronics Engineer looking to work on innovative products used within the photonics, semiconductor and scientific instrumentation sectors?

Our client is a world leading manufacturer of advanced solid state laser systems and is seeking an Electronics Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team in Rugby. Working within both R&D and Manufacturing, you will play a key role in the design, development, testing and validation of sophisticated electronic hardware used in cutting edge laser systems supplied worldwide.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Hardware Design Engineer who enjoys taking products from concept through to manufacture and wants to work in a highly technical engineering environment.

The Role

As an Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development and validation of electronic hardware, with particular emphasis on power electronics, analogue electronics and digital electronics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Electronic circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout and wiring diagram generation using ECAD software.
  • Design and development of analogue, digital and mixed signal electronics, including power supplies, DC/DC converters and high voltage circuitry.
  • Development of production test equipment, hardware testing, fault finding, debugging and product validation using laboratory test equipment.
  • Supporting EMC compliance, electrical safety and technical documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and Engineering teams to resolve technical issues and support production.

The Person

You should have:

  • A degree in Electronic Engineering or Electrical & Electronic Engineering together with a minimum of three years' commercial electronics design experience.
  • Strong analogue and digital hardware design skills, including schematic capture and PCB layout using ECAD software such as Altium, OrCAD, KiCad or similar.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, signal generators and other electronic test equipment, together with SPICE circuit simulation.
  • Knowledge of CAN, I2C, SPI and UART communication interfaces.
  • Excellent fault finding, problem solving and hands on prototype assembly and soldering skills.
  • Good communication, organisation and project management abilities.

Experience with power electronics, high voltage systems, DC/DC converters, power supply design, EMC compliance, electrical safety standards, Embedded C, Python, scientific instrumentation, photonics, semiconductor equipment, laser systems or industrial electronics would be advantageous.
