Electronics Engineer

Product Development | Altium | Embedded Systems | Reading

If you’re an Electronics Engineer who enjoys variety, fast-paced development and seeing products become reality quickly, this is the kind of opportunity that doesn’t come around often.

Imagine working in an environment where design, PCB manufacture, PCB assembly and prototyping are all under one roof. No waiting weeks for boards to arrive. No endless handovers between suppliers. Just a highly capable engineering team with the facilities to design, build, test and iterate products at speed.

This Electronics Engineer role is ideal for someone with around 4+ years of hands-on product development experience who wants to work on genuinely varied projects across industrial, aerospace, automotive, IoT, consumer and emerging technology sectors.

One week you could be supporting an industrial control product; the next, working on an IoT device, automotive power management electronics or a completely new concept developed from scratch. If you enjoy technical variety and practical engineering, you’ll feel right at home here.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Electronics Engineer, you’ll contribute across the full product development lifecycle — from early concept through prototype, testing and production support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing electronic hardware and supporting embedded firmware for new product developments

  • Creating and updating schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs and technical documentation

  • Developing and executing manual and automated test procedures

  • Supporting prototype builds, board bring-up and first article testing

  • Participating in formal peer design reviews within a structured quality environment

  • Maintaining project documentation and task tracking using Jira

  • Communicating technical risks, assumptions and progress clearly within the team

  • Contributing ideas and practical engineering input across hardware, firmware and test activities

  • Planning and managing your own tasks within Agile sprint-based projects

  • Supporting component selection, DFM/DFT activities and production readiness

  • Helping improve engineering processes, standards and development practices across the wider team

This is a role where you’ll be trusted to take ownership while still having access to experienced engineers for support and mentoring.

The Kind of Electronics Engineer Who Thrives Here

You’re probably someone who enjoys building things, not just talking about them. You like getting hands-on with prototypes, solving real engineering problems and seeing ideas progress quickly from concept to working hardware.

You’re comfortable working independently, but you also enjoy collaborating with other engineers to tackle challenging problems. Most importantly, you’re curious — the type of engineer who enjoys learning new technologies and taking on unfamiliar technical challenges.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline

  • At least 4 years’ hands-on electronics product development experience

  • Good working knowledge of schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer or similar ECAD tools

  • Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller-based products

  • Familiarity with communication interfaces such as SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, LIN and Ethernet

  • Experience with AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion and battery-powered products

  • Practical hardware debugging and fault-finding skills

  • Strong communication skills and a structured approach to engineering tasks

  • Awareness of component availability, obsolescence and design-for-manufacture considerations

Desirable Experience

Any of the following would be a bonus:

  • Industrial, automotive, aerospace or medical electronics development

  • Wi-Fi or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) products

  • EMC and safety-conscious design

  • High-density, rigid-flex or miniaturised PCB designs

  • IPC PCB design standards

  • End-of-line test or programming fixture development

Why This Electronics Engineer Role Stands Out

What makes this Electronics Engineer opportunity different is the combination of technical variety, rapid prototyping capability and genuine development ownership.

You’ll be joining a growing engineering division within a long-established electronics manufacturing business, giving you the stability of an established organisation with the energy and opportunity of a rapidly expanding product development team.

You’ll have access to excellent in-house facilities, opportunities for external training, and a clear path toward greater technical responsibility and senior-level ownership over time.

What’s On Offer: Competitive salary, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, Pension scheme, ongoing technical training and professional development, exposure to a wide range of technologies and industry sectors, the opportunity to grow into senior technical ownership within a supportive engineering team.

If you’re looking for an Electronics Engineer role where you can stay hands-on, work on genuinely interesting products and develop your career in a fast-growing innovation environment, this is definitely worth a conversation.
