Our clients have an exciting opportunity for an Electronics Design Engineer to join their growing team in Waterlooville.
The Electronics Design Engineer will be responsible for the development, validation, certification and ongoing improvement of the company's products and associated electronics. The role will focus on the renewal and enhancement of existing control platforms, incorporating lessons learned from legacy products, component obsolescence management, performance improvements and new product requirements.
The successful candidate will also lead the design of new electronic hardware and embedded firmware to support the next generation of fire curtain systems. The position combines analogue and digital circuit design, PCB development, embedded software engineering, testing and certification activities.
Working closely with mechanical, manufacturing and product development teams, the role will ensure electrical and electronic systems meet the functional, reliability, EMC, safety and compliance requirements of the product.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain electronic control systems for fire products, including improvements to existing legacy designs.
- Design analogue and digital circuits for motor control, power management, monitoring, safety, and I/O functions.
- Produce PCB schematics, layouts and full design documentation.
- Develop embedded firmware in C for microcontroller-based systems (e.g. Atmel, PIC).
- Design AC and DC motor drive and control circuits, including power and battery backup systems.
- Ensure EMC, electrical safety, reliability, and manufacturability are considered throughout the design process.
- Support component selection, analysis (thermal, electrical, lifecycle), and system performance validation.
- Plan and support verification and validation testing, including EMC, electrical safety, and reliability testing.
- Liaise with external test houses and support resolution of compliance issues.
- Investigate failures, debug prototypes, and implement corrective design changes.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, PCB data, firmware documentation, and technical files.
- Support prototype builds and production introduction, resolving technical issues as required.
- Work closely with mechanical and product development teams to ensure full system integration.
- Support engineering change control and configuration management activities.
Required skills & experience:
- Degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems, or related discipline.
- Proven experience in electronic product development from concept through design, testing, and production release.
- Experience working with Hardware and firmware
Working hours: 8am – 4:30pm – Monday – Thursday 8am – 2pm – Friday
