Our client is an established designer and manufacturer of innovative electronic products and is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join their expanding design team!
The successful Embedded Software Engineer will develop products for the company’s own portfolio and customers across a diverse range of industries. Projects will vary from high-speed Linux-based single-board computers and IoT sensors using Bluetooth Mesh to indicator panels and other embedded electronic products.
Working collaboratively with the wider design team, the Embedded Software Engineer will deliver high-quality, production-ready products for manufacture within UK and Far Eastern facilities.
Embedded Software Engineer Roles and Responsibilities:
- Review product specifications and propose suitable software solutions
- Develop embedded software using C and C++
- Develop application software and supporting test software
- Research and develop new embedded electronic products
- Contribute ideas and concepts for new products
- Work with Embedded Linux, RTOS platforms, microcontrollers and microprocessors
- Debug, test and validate software at both application and hardware level
- Ensure products meet customer specifications and applicable industry standards
- Use Git for source control and collaborative software development
- Produce clear and accurate software documentation
- Liaise with Production Engineering and manufacturing teams during product introduction
- Support the migration of new products into volume manufacturing
Embedded Software Engineer Ideal Candidate:
- Degree qualified in Software Engineering or a closely related discipline
- More than one year of commercial embedded-product development experience
- Strong embedded software development experience using C and C++
- Practical experience with Embedded Linux and real-time operating systems
- Experience programming 32-bit microcontrollers and microprocessors
- Confident using Git for version control
- Strong debugging, testing and fault-finding capabilities
- Good understanding of electronic subsystems and hardware-level development
- Understanding of modern software-development methodologies
- Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary product-design team
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- GUI development using LVGL or Qt
- Experience with FreeRTOS or Zephyr
- Knowledge of Yocto
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines
- Understanding of communication protocols including USB, UART, SPI, I2C, CAN and Ethernet
- Experience with wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and NFC
