Embedded Software Engineer – Embedded C & RTOS – New Forest, Hampshire

An Embedded Software Engineer job is available in New Forest, Hampshire, with an established electronics design and manufacturing business, developing market-leading electronic products and assemblies for a diverse range of industries and applications.

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer with a strong background in Embedded C, bare-metal programming, RTOS and 32-bit microcontrollers/microprocessors, combined with practical experience working at hardware level.

Based in New Forest, Hampshire, you will work as part of an experienced electronics design team, developing embedded software and electronic products from specification through to manufacture. Product complexity will vary from high-speed Linux-based single-board computers and TFT displays to IoT sensors, Bluetooth mesh devices and low-power electronic products, making this an excellent opportunity for an engineer seeking a varied and technically challenging role.

Responsibilities of the Embedded Software Engineer job in New Forest, Hampshire

• Reviewing product specifications and developing robust embedded software solutions, including Embedded C, bare-metal and RTOS-based development.
• Designing and developing embedded, application and test software for electronic products, working closely with hardware engineers and considering hardware-level interactions.
• Developing reliable, high-quality products that meet technical specifications and applicable industry standards, with responsibility for debugging, testing and software verification.
• Working closely with Production Engineering and manufacturing teams to support the transition of electronic products from development into production.

Requirements of the Embedded Software Engineer job in New Forest, Hampshire

• Experience with Embedded C, bare-metal programming, RTOS, 32-bit microcontrollers and microprocessors, with a strong understanding of embedded hardware interaction.
• Practical experience in embedded software development, debugging and testing, with knowledge of current software development methodologies.
• Degree-level qualification in Software Engineering or a related discipline is desirable, alongside experience designing or developing electronic products and working at hardware level.
• Experience with FreeRTOS or Zephyr, Embedded Linux, GUI development, communications protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet or Bluetooth, and ultra-low-power systems would be advantageous.
