Embedded Software Engineer

YT Technologies

YT Technologies has partnered with a premier, highly successful manufacturer of medical devices and life-changing mechatronic products.

They are looking for their first dedicated Senior Embedded Software Specialist to act as the primary software authority within their multidisciplinary engineering hub in Leeds.

This isn't a role where you sit in a silo waiting for a tight corporate brief. You will be the sole internal software specialist, working directly alongside mechanical and electronics engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Firmware Architecture & Maintenance: Design, write, and maintain robust embedded C/C++ firmware for life-changing physical devices.

  • In-House Transition: Proactively manage the technical relationship with external contractors, systematically absorbing and transferring the codebase back in-house.

  • Process & Tooling Setup: Take total ownership of the software lifecycle, including source control management (GitLab setup), risk assessments, and software documentation standards.

  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Act as the voice of software in the room, working closely with hardware teams and using electronic test equipment (Oscilloscopes) to debug your own work.

Whether you are a seasoned veteran looking for a long-term home, or an incredibly sharp, driven mid-level engineer ready to step up into your first senior authority post—we want to hear from you.

  • Embedded Competence: 5+ years of experience writing C/C++ for embedded systems, with a solid grasp of microcontrollers and live sensor data/motor control (Mechatronics).

  • The "Big Picture" Mindset: You are looking to genuinely own a product line, not just write isolated code and walk away.

  • Regulatory Rigor: Comfortable working within a structured, regulated framework (Medical, Aerospace, Defence, etc.) where risk-assessment and structured documentation are treated as core disciplines.

  • Communication Depth: Because you will be working with a non-software engineering lead, you must be a thoughtful communicator who can confidently explain software architectures to non-expert audiences.

  • Commute Realism: Comfortable with a hybrid model requiring 2 days a week on-site in Leeds to collaborate face-to-face and work hands-on with physical product hardware.

Why Apply?

  • A True Greenfield Opportunity: Build the internal software engineering process, infrastructure, and tools entirely in your own vision with zero legacy friction.

  • Products that Matter: Work in a highly rewarding field where your code directly impacts human mobility and improves lives every single day.

  • No Corporate Red Tape: Join a tight-knit, collaborative team of three (with plans to scale) where high-quality technical output and passion are valued over corporate box-ticking.
