Role Overview
We are recruiting a motivated and people-focused Employment Advisor to join a busy and supportive employability team in Workington.
This is an excellent opportunity for somebody who enjoys helping others achieve their goals and would like to build a career within employability, welfare-to-work, recruitment, customer service, education, community support or related sectors.
As an Employment Advisor, you will provide one-to-one support to individuals seeking employment, helping them identify opportunities, overcome barriers and take positive steps towards sustainable work. You will develop personalised action plans, deliver employability support and build strong relationships with local employers and community partners to create opportunities for participants.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong transferable skills. Previous employability experience is beneficial but not essential. If you have experience in customer-facing roles, recruitment, sales, coaching, education, social care, housing, health & wellbeing, community support or similar environments, we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Participant Engagement & Caseload Management
- Manage a caseload of participants and provide tailored employment support
- Conduct eligibility and suitability assessments
- Build positive and trusting relationships with participants throughout their journey
- Maintain engagement and motivation through regular reviews and support sessions
- Support participants to identify realistic employment goals and progression routes
- Develop personalised action plans based on individual needs and aspirations
- Deliver Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to support progression into employment
- Support participants with:
- Job searching
- CV development
- Application forms
- Interview preparation
- Career planning
- Monitor and review participant progress towards agreed goals
- Identify barriers that may impact employment outcomes
- Signpost participants to appropriate support services, including:
- Training opportunities
- Health & wellbeing services
- Digital inclusion support
- External specialist providers
- Support holistic development and progression
- Build relationships with local employers and stakeholders
- Source employment opportunities, work trials and volunteering placements
- Match participants to suitable vacancies
- Conduct pre-screening and candidate preparation activities
- Support participants after job start to improve retention and sustainment outcomes
Quality, Compliance & Performance
- Maintain accurate participant records and management information
- Work towards agreed performance targets including:
- Programme starts
- Job outcomes
- Sustained employment outcomes
- Employer engagement activity
- Contribute to quality improvement and customer service standards
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies and contractual requirements
Essential Criteria
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage a caseload and prioritise workload effectively
- Confident using Microsoft Office and digital systems
- Positive and proactive approach to problem solving
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Willingness to travel across Cumbria when required
