Energy Operations Trainee Operator
Location: Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, DN16 1XA
Salary: £31,129.41
Working Pattern: 42 hours per week, 12-hour shift pattern
What you need to know about the role
We're looking for motivated and safety-focused individuals to join our Energy Operations team as Trainee Operators.
Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, you'll play an important role in supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our energy plant. Working as part of a multi-skilled operational team, you'll learn how to monitor plant performance, respond to changing operating conditions and contribute to achieving key business and production targets.
As part of your development, you'll gain exposure to a wide range of operational activities including plant inspections, control room operations, equipment monitoring, sampling and routine operational checks. You'll also support plant start-ups, shutdowns and isolations, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with operational procedures and safe systems of work.
Key responsibilities
- Monitoring plant performance and operating conditions through SCADA, DCS and other control systems
- Carrying out routine inspections, plant checks, testing and sampling activities
- Supporting the safe start-up, shutdown and isolation of plant equipment
- Identifying plant issues and contributing to fault finding, root cause analysis and problem-solving activities
- Participating in safety audits, risk assessments, investigations and continuous improvement initiatives
- Reporting incidents, hazards and near misses while actively promoting a positive safety culture
- Ensuring environmental standards are maintained through monitoring and proactive assessments of plant performance and emissions
- Working closely with Engineering teams during planned maintenance and outage activities
- Contributing to team and departmental performance targets and operational KPIs
What we need to know about you
We're interested in hearing from candidates who currently work, or have previously worked, in a continuous process, engineering, manufacturing, utilities, production or operational environment.
You should be comfortable working within a fast-paced, safety-critical operation and be able to demonstrate a proactive approach to learning, teamwork and continuous improvement.
Ideally, you'll have experience of:
- Working within a 24/7 shift-based environment
- Monitoring plant performance and responding to changing operating conditions
- Following safe working procedures and permit-to-work processes
- Carrying out operational inspections, testing or sampling activities
- Root cause analysis, fault finding and problem solving
- Working to operational targets and key performance indicators
- Reading and interpreting technical documentation, diagrams or P&IDs
- Using SCADA, DCS or similar process control systems
You will also have:
- A good standard of English and Mathematics
- Strong communication and teamworking skills
- A keen focus on safety, environmental compliance and continuous improvement
- A full UK driving licence
Experience within a Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation discipline would be advantageous but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
