Engineering Design Lead in Chandler's Ford, Hampshire

A growing engineering team within the water and pumping industry is looking for an experienced mechanical engineering professional to lead its design function.

You will lead a team of Design Specialists, Project Design Engineers and Setting Out & Surveying Engineers, taking projects from initial requirements through surveys, modelling, detailed design and construction documentation.

This could suit a Lead Engineer, Engineering Team Leader or experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with strong design capability, project planning and people leadership experience.

What You Will Be Doing

• Lead a team across design, project design engineering, setting out and surveying activities.
• Plan and coordinate workloads, allocating the right people and resources across multiple projects.
• Review drawings and models before submission, ensuring they meet the client brief, regulatory requirements, internal standards and industry best practice.
• Oversee projects through site survey, concept development, site modelling, equipment modelling, detailed design and construction documentation.
• Create and maintain accurate 3D models of pumping applications.
• Produce and oversee construction drawings including plans, elevations, sections and technical details.
• Manage design changes, approvals, model control, Revit families, templates and design standards.
• Support, develop and motivate the team while monitoring workload, performance, quality and delivery standards.

Skills & Experience Required

• Mechanical engineering experience within a design or project environment.
• Previous experience as a Lead Engineer, Engineering Team Leader, Design Team Leader or similar role.
• Strong leadership skills with experience guiding and allocating work across an engineering or design team.
• Strong design capability, ideally covering architectural and Mechanical Electrical Plumbing applications.
• Experience creating and managing Revit families, templates, models and standards.
• Strong project management, planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Ability to read, interpret and review technical drawings with excellent attention to detail.
• Experience within mechanical engineering, civil engineering, pumping, construction or a related engineering environment.
• Knowledge of site surveying procedures and equipment including GPS or Robotic EDM would be advantageous.
• HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent would be advantageous, but relevant mechanical engineering experience will also be considered.
• AutoCAD experience would be beneficial.
• Driving licence would be useful for occasional site support but is not essential.
