Currently recruiting for an Engineering Fitter to join a very busy specialist engineering company in Hyde.

Job Summary

The Engineering Fitter is responsible for the manufacture, refurbishment, fitting, and repair of white metal (Babbitt) bearings and associated mechanical components. The role involves precision fitting, scraping, machining support, and strict adherence to quality and safety standards, often for rotating machinery and heavy industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacture, refurbish, and repair white metal (Babbitt) bearings
  • Hand-fit bearings to achieve correct clearances and alignment
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Measure and inspect components using precision measuring instruments
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Complete job documentation
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a White Metal Fitter, Bearing Fitter, or Mechanical Fitter
  • Strong understanding of white metal materials, bearing clearances, and lubrication systems
  • Skilled in scraping, fitting, and precision measurement techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances
  • Experience working with rotating machinery (turbines, pumps, compressors, motors)
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Recognised apprenticeship or technical qualification in mechanical engineering or fitting
  • Experience in white metal or bearing engineering

What you get

  • Salary starting at £16.94 per hour
  • Hours of work Mon to Thurs 7.45am – 5pm Fri 7.45 – 10.45am + regular overtime available
  • Pension contributions where the company contributes 5%
  • Generous holiday scheme, 25 days a year plus 8 statutory days also we offer service days where you get 1 extra day for every 5 years’ service.
  • All PPE and tools required to do their job safely provided.
