Engineering Manager

We're recruiting for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a skilled engineering function within a growing UK manufacturer. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll oversee engineering operations, develop your team, and drive continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.
This opportunity would suit someone with a background in precision engineering, CNC machining, fabrication, tooling or advanced manufacturing who enjoys leading people as much as improving processes.
You'll play a key role in ensuring engineering activities support production, quality and business objectives while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop the Engineering team, creating a high-performance culture through coaching, regular performance reviews and succession planning.
- Oversee day-to-day engineering operations, ensuring workloads are planned effectively and delivered on time.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve productivity, quality, efficiency and cost performance.
- Support manufacturing by identifying opportunities to improve engineering processes, tooling, equipment and production methods.
- Manage engineering projects from concept through implementation, ensuring delivery within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Collaborate closely with Production, Planning, Supply Chain and Quality teams to resolve manufacturing challenges and improve overall performance.
- Introduce new equipment, technologies and manufacturing techniques where appropriate.
- Monitor engineering performance using KPIs and provide regular reports to senior management.
- Ensure engineering documentation, procedures and standards remain accurate and up to date.
- Maintain engineering equipment and resources to ensure maximum reliability and availability.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and company procedures.
- Support root cause investigations and implement robust corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
The Ideal Candidate
- Significant experience within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience leading or supervising engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, machining techniques and engineering best practice.
- Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to motivate, develop and coach teams.
- Organised, commercially aware and capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety within manufacturing.
