The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Engineering Manager to join a large, fast-paced manufacturing operation.
This is a key leadership position where you'll be responsible for driving engineering performance, improving reliability, and ensuring the site continues to operate safely and efficiently. You'll lead a well-established engineering function while working closely with the wider leadership team to deliver operational improvements, develop engineering capability and support the future growth of the business.
We're looking for someone who is a strong and resilient leader - someone who can make decisions under pressure, hold people accountable and build a motivated, high-performing team. Developing engineers and creating a culture of continuous improvement will be just as important as delivering engineering excellence.
This is an ideal opportunity for an Engineering Manager who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, influencing change and delivering tangible results in a challenging manufacturing environment.
The Role
As Engineering Manager, you'll take ownership of the site's engineering strategy, ensuring maintenance activities, engineering standards and compliance requirements support the operational goals of the business.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing the engineering team, driving engagement, accountability and performance
- Creating a long-term engineering strategy focused on reliability, efficiency and continuous improvement
- Improving equipment availability by implementing robust preventative maintenance and reliability programmes
- Reducing recurring equipment failures through effective root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Supporting production by delivering measurable improvements in plant performance and manufacturing output
- Managing engineering budgets and ensuring maintenance expenditure is effectively controlled
- Driving health, safety and behavioural safety initiatives throughout the engineering department
- Supporting capital investment projects from planning through to implementation and commissioning
- Working collaboratively with Operations, Production and Site Leadership to achieve business objectives
- Developing succession plans, coaching engineers and strengthening the technical capability of the department
- Building internal engineering knowledge to reduce dependency on external support and improve first-time fixes
About You
You'll be an experienced Engineering Manager with a proven track record of leading engineering teams within a manufacturing environment.
More importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys building teams, developing people and creating an environment where engineers can perform at their best.
You'll also bring:
- Experience leading engineering teams within a high-volume manufacturing environment
- A strong background in maintenance, reliability and continuous improvement
- Experience delivering improvements in production output, equipment reliability and operational performance
- Previous responsibility for engineering budgets and cost control
- Strong knowledge of engineering compliance, HSE legislation and safe systems of work
- Excellent leadership, communication and coaching skills
- The ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the business
- A calm, solutions-focused approach with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
The successful candidate will be:
- A confident and decisive leader
- Passionate about developing people and building successful teams
- Driven by results and continuous improvement
- Commercially aware with experience managing engineering budgets
- Comfortable working in a demanding manufacturing environment where priorities can change quickly
- Someone who leads by example and isn't afraid to challenge the status quo to improve the operation
If you're looking for a role where you can genuinely influence engineering performance, develop a talented team and play a key role in the success of a large manufacturing operation, we'd love to hear from you.
